A Thanksgiving day gone wrong

It was supposed to be a good day. We had these great plans, ideas and, most certainly, good intentions. First, we'd go to the Oktoberfest parade but... Paisley had a horrible night and Darren had to take her out for a drive at 6:30 a.m. She fell asleep in the car on his way home at 8:00 and she stayed sleeping until 11:00 a.m!!! - which made us late for the parade... on our drive there, we listened to the radio and we heard: "the parade has come to an end...". So, we decided to take a drive downtown anyway because, surely, we would see a float (or 2) lingering around. Upon arriving downtown, all the roads are blocked, it starts to rain and there isn't a float to be found. Seriously, where do all those giant floats disappear to after the parade is over? Is there some black hole where they all get sucked into?

This is what we were looking for. Look at the size of this thing! Where the heck did it go?

We decided to head back to our neck of the woods and go back to the pumpkin patch (with money in hand), but beforehand, we stop at the Pioneer tower to see if we could climb up and see the beautiful Autumn colours along the Grand River. It's cold and windy and lo and behold, the tower is closed. But... but, there's an awesome park adjacent to the tower. We head there, slide down the slide a few times and sit the kids down in the swing. Not 2 minutes later, it starts pouring rain. How nice. Back to the car we go. Paisley is beyond annoyed from being in the car way too long, Carys doesn't want to leave the park.... - so, off to the pumpkin patch we go and we all know how that ends (see pumpkin patch post.)

One of the few moments of this day that Paisley is happy.

--
Look at those menacing clouds. We were doomed.

We go back home because we have to get the turkey in the oven. All goes well with that, but Paisley is unhappy for the rest of the day and Carys too. They whine and cry and, literally, make us pull our hair out- but, we tell ourselves that our turkey dinner will make up for it....

We took the turkey out at the 4.5 hours mark (as suggested), but it was clearly not ready. Great. The kids are hungry and whiny and our plans for a nice, family turkey dinner are quashed. Paisley painstakinly ate some left over rice- but, was obviously not having it and Carys ate a ham and cheese croissant sandwich- very Thanksgiving-ish, don't you think?

By 6:30 pm, Paisley could no longer function so she was whisked to bed. By 6:45 p.m Carys was right behind her, which left Darren and I to eat a feast at a childless table. We finally settled down to eat our nicely cooked turkey dinner at 8:00 pm. It felt weird eating at the table without our girls, but we enjoyed it, nonetheless. We shared a whole bottle of wine. We needed it after the day we had.

Darren is digging in, all alone. Carys' and Paisley's place sit empty. Maybe if we had more family close by, we could have a full table...

But, it's all good. There's always next year. And, I promise you, we will be seeing Onkel Hans- rain or shine, sleeping kid or not.
